GONE WITH THE WIND

The fur coat is out! One of my favourite pieces I have ever bought in my whole wardrobe, I came across this furry beauty at a vintage fair last year. Don't worry, its not real; I'm not that kind of girl! Vintage is a fever that so many in fashion have caught or want to catch. Personally, I've scoured charity shops far and wide and maybe only ever found a couple of things that were worth buying. Maybe I was looking in the wrong places. I was starting to think that I was just not cut out for that kind of shopping - but vintage is something I can tap into! With my interest in fashion history and history in general, I love to think that there's a real story behind the clothes I buy, even if it is marginally more expensive than popping to the local charity shop. This lovely piece of outerwear has served me so well - a worthy investment! Not only does it keeps me cosy and protected from the bitter winter wind (which has decided to intensify recently, clearly shown in this shoot), but it has also been the star of a number of my uni photography styling projects. The colour is unusual too; not quite white and not quite grey - its a perfect wolfy hybrid! I wanted to show it off in it's first appearance, so chose this simple fishnet panel white skater dress and my trusty wedges. I also treated myself to a new MAC lipstick last week, as I needed a little pick-me-up - I chose a matte 'Diva' - MAC definitely knows how to cheer a girl up!

My uni workload is overwhelming at the moment, so I'm forced to let blog posts take a back seat for a while - I will be posting more sporadically, but will be back in full force at Christmas and in the new year!

NAVY DAY

Over summer I did a considerably large wardrobe clear out and threw away almost all of my navy clothing. It's just my luck that I then come across this beautiful floppy hat for winter and don't have anything to coordinate with it! As a self-confessed magpie, the sparkly addition in the form of the brooch embellishment was something that attracted me to this hat in store. I luckily did have this thick knit snood to match which is a winter staple, but I always feel deep autumnal colours like this lipstick (MAC 'Diva') work very well with navy, in addition to black. My coat has resurfaced again, as I wear it almost every day. On a recent shopping spree I also purchased my own fluffy pom pom bag charm, after seeing them all over Instagram. I was originally going to choose the pink version, but as soon as I spotted this icy blue one I knew it had to be mine - there are other colours available, so you have a variety to choose from when selecting your new little bag fluffy pet.

MOCK CROC

Another day, another handbag! After hunting for a new black leather handbag and having a few near misses, as soon as I saw this I knew it was the perfect winter bag. It's just the right size for fitting all my little things for days out, with a little extra space if I buy anything small too. The shape reminds me of some of my favourite bags in my mum's wardrobe - just obviously not with the designer price tag! I decided to go mock mad with this look by pairing the handbag with both a new pair of snakeskin shoes and a skirt. Snoods, especially of the fur kind, have clearly become a new item for me to collect in every style and colour (there are many more that have yet to be revealed) - they're a snug alternative to the usual scarf! Yet another statement lip here just happened to coordinate with such an autumnal colour scheme - its amazing what can be found and come across when exploring the little paths and settings around a local area.

I'm in love with the scene we found for this shoot - the beautiful range of colours in autumn leaves are always the ideal setting for seasonal fashion photography.

SPOOKY SPECIAL

Here is a spontaneous Halloween post as I thought I'd show what I wore last night! Its spontaneous as I didn't actually have finite plans for the evening, but after a long day in London I returned to the surprise that I was joining my house mates at a party, which was followed by an unplanned night out in Kingston. Needless to say I had a fabulous evening, made even better as it was so unexpected!

So my costume: as I hadn't fully planned my look I decided to improvise with what I already had and work some magic with spooky makeup. The cat ears were my go-to item to have in a drawer in case of situations like this with unplanned fancy dress. This black dress with a sheer overlay was perfect for the occasion as the floaty material had a ghouly effect when combined with my makeup. In the end I came to the conclusion that I was a murderous cat, with my heavily backcombed hair assuming a position resembling a tail on the back of my head (obviously the ears also gave it away). I always have fun with fake blood effects on Halloween: there's something wrong but right about experimenting! I used basic contouring techniques with darker smokey eye makeup on my face and neck to highlight my neck and collar bone - I certainly don't profess to be a pro makeup artist!

Hope you had a spooktacular halloween...
