TANNED IS THE TOP TREND

CFDA AWARDS 2014

While Rihanna's semi naked sparkly mesh gown by Adam Selmer was a stunning highlight for almost every publication around, I wasn't too wowed by the Style Icon Of The Year's outfit choice. For me it was too fussy, taking sparkle a step over the line - and probably not the most appropriate choice for the evening! The CFDA's (Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards) were held at the Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall on Monday 2nd June in New York City. It's true there were some absolute disasters. I preferred the more subtle of a varied bunch:

Joan Smalls was the epitome of subtle glamour in her navy Prabal Gurung wrapped chiffon gown. Her lack of embellishment drew all the attention to the Grecian-esque garment, with the side split creating a refined but racy edge.

Although slammed by the New York Post as 'busted Barbie doll blandness', (they weren't particularly positive about the looks they critiqued) for me Blake Lively wore sparkle the understated way. Her Michael Kors Resort 2015 sequin dress was complimented by her rose blush heels, with her simple makeup and jewellery allowing the dress to speak for itself. Barbie is most definitely not bland!

As we move into the summer months its becoming increasingly obvious that warmer colours are the favourite for those wanting to achieve an exotic sun-kissed look. Much like Isabelli Fontana's lemon gown at Cannes, Heidi Klum opted for this tangerine halter neck Donna Karan maxi with gold accents. She practically radiated summer glamour.

Always the French belle, Marion Cotillard's white and nude lace Dior shift ensemble was consistent with her sophisticated style; her pointed lemon heels offered an elegant pop of colour.

Karlie Kloss confidently poses in her sleek satin Band of Outsiders look, however I was a little unsure about her choice of footwear; a bit too figure skater for this occasion.

If a sunny Caribbean holiday isn't on the cards its definitely time to whip out your favourite tanning product to make your skin glow. It seems its about baring all and embracing the sunshine, or lack of!
